![]() ![]() The case is aimed at MBA/PGDBA students, and is intended to be a part of the production and operations management curriculum. In this course, we take the next step in connecting CAD, CAM, and CAE through a series of short exercises on 3D modeling, rendering, simulation, and computer. The case is structured to enable students to: (1) understand the importance of automation and the use of information technology (IT) at the shop floor for an automobile manufacturer (2) understand the concept of CAD/CAM/CAE tools and appreciate the scope of their application and potential for contribution to the automobile industry (3) understand the circumstances that led GM to adopt new age manufacturing tools (4) study the approach and process involved in the implementation of CAD/CAM/CAE at the company and (5) explore the benefits reaped by GM as a result of the above initiatives. The case looks at how GM adopted these new age manufacturing technologies and how it benefited from these technologies. It discusses in detail the concept of CAD/CAM/CAE and the benefits associated with the software. Interactive tool specifically designed to enhance and improve the Design Checker role, a critical step in a model. The case examines the reasons behind General Motor''s (GM) implementation of Computer Aided - Design, Manufacturing, and Engineering (CAD/CAM/CAE) tools in the 1990s.
